INDIAN STREET FOOD
ABOUT THALI TRAY
Thali Tray began as a concept the moment Josh began his 6-month food tour of India, where he volunteered in kitchens throughout the numerous culinary regions. During this time Josh worked in every type of establishment from famous 100-year-old restaurants to daily street food carts.
Thali Tray first launched as a mobile catering unit in July 2018 and after only 3 months of trading, Thali Tray was awarded ‘The People’s Choice Winner’ through a public vote at the hugely popular ‘Argie Bhaji Curry Battle 3.0’ at Wylam Brewery (the north east’s biggest curry battle). On the back of a hugely successful first few months, Thali Tray has now teamed up with Newcastle Brewing Ltd to create Newcastle’s first craft brewery and Indian street food joint at Arch 2, Ouseburn.
Newcastle Brewing is run by father and son brewers Mike and Leo Bell. Inspired by Brewdog and local brewers including Northern Alchemy and Wylam they decided to have a go themselves. They started with a Punk IPA kit which turned out very drinkable and did a few all grain brews with Joe Milam and the Brewhouse Collective at Brewdog Newcastle. They invested in their own kit and started brewing in Mike’s garage but soon had to find premises when Mike & Leo moved to Arch 2, Ouseburn and lost the garage.
